Melvin D. Nix
Artist Bio
Melvin D. Nix is an artist, author, and spiritual teacher whose work delves into themes of growth, resilience, and personal transformation. Born in Greenville, Mississippi, and now based in Charlotte, NC, Melvin’s creative journey began as a child by drawing epic comic book panels in the margins of his school books.
After being inspired by the movie Toy Story, Melvin started teaching himself 3D modeling and animation and eventually pursued a career in motion design, and in 2020 painting became his chosen medium for self-expression and connection.
He revisited his desire to paint, picked up a brush, and started painting with acrylic. With each new piece, his skills grew allowing him to expand into watercolor and oil painting. His passion is to share spiritual ideas and principles designed to inspire, educate, and enlighten the human collective.
Melvin’s first solo exhibit lasted three months followed by a one-month solo exhibit in 2023, both locations were held in Charlotte, NC.
In 2024, Melvin became an Arts & Science Council Emerging Creator Fellowship Awardee. The grant he received allowed him to enroll in the NC Academy of Art and other art-specific programs like the Art of Valor watercolor workshops for Veterans supported by the Patriot Art Foundation culminating in a final workshop aboard the USS Yorktown in Charleston, SC.
His paintings have been included in various exhibits hosted by the Hart Weitzen Gallery, QC Family Tree, both in Charlotte, NC, the Drinking Gourd Gallery in Raleigh, NC, Gallery 120 in Clover, SC, Stormwater Gallery in Columbia, SC, Casa Azul in Greensboro, NC, the Art of Valor Watercolor Workshop aboard the USS Yorktown in Charleston, SC, a program supported by the Patriot Art Foundation, and others.
Through vibrant colors and layered symbolism, Melvin’s art bridges the physical and the spiritual, offering a moment to pause and engage with the unseen forces that shape our lives. He hopes that each piece serves as a reminder that, much like an acorn carries the promise of a forest, we each hold seeds of potential capable of cultivating lasting change.
