Drinking Gourd Gallery MUG
Make art a part of your everyday routine! This mug is great for sipping coffee, tea, cocoa and more.
Drinking Gourd Gallery founder and owner Carol Torian derived the gallery name from the American folk song "Follow the Drinking Gourd," which was published 63 years after the end of the Civil War in 1928. Literally, a drinking gourd is a hollowed-out gourd that has traditionally been used as a water dipper. In the context of the "Follow the Drinking Gourd" song, the drinking gourd references the Big Dipper asterism. In the absence of maps and compasses, the Big Dipper’s outline in the night sky helped slaves fleeing bondage to find The North Star. By following this star, they were able to navigate their way North to freedom.
