Collection: Darryl Matthews' Artwork Enters Museum Collection

Darryl Matthews' Artwork Enters Museum Collection
Drinking Gourd Gallery is proud to announce that artist Darryl Matthews had one of his paintings installed in the permanent collection of the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City, Missouri. This significant honor underscores the artist’s growing influence and the lasting impact of his work.

The painting, titled "Milestone," captures a moment of quiet connection between two players—Josh Gibson and Babe Ruth—shaking hands across a divide that once seemed impossible to cross. This major piece was generously gifted to the museum by collector Michael Terner. The work was officially unveiled during a special event on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, 1616 E 18th St, Kansas City, Missouri.

Darryl Matthews' work speaks to the heart of contemporary expression, while creating narratives about American culture and providing a lens for viewing the nation’s complex history. This installation is a proud moment not just for the artist, but for everyone who has supported his journey.

Please join us in congratulating Darryl on this outstanding achievement!
